How the SEGA Sonic Series Thrives and the new “Sonic Mania” Game
Sonic the Hedgehog has been around since 1993, courtesy of Sega, Sonic Team, Bioware, and SNK. And, in comparison to other, major competing video-game (and PC titles) Sonic the Hedgehog by far remains one of the most popular, well-loved, and desirable “old school” gaming characters – and of course his partner Tails, and antagonist Knuckles.
Sonic the Hedgehog, in combination with his original fans and roots, has continued to explode on the current, mobile application market by reaching smartphones and tablets alike, often through what are known as “emulators.” Essentially, these emulators serve as a sort of application which gives you similar controls as to the original game, console, and of course game-plot, characters, and experiences. A great example of this would be Pokémon, and it’s increasing, solid popularity and continued sales to-date – even after all these years.
Let us also not forget the success and popularity of the hit T.V. series “Sonic X”, originally broadcasting back in 2003, along with the continued release of DVD or other forms of media which include variations of Sonic’s adventures – and even the languages in which they’re played.
No doubt, Sonic the Hedgehog remains an all-time favorite, and seemingly “revived” gaming character and action hero. And, given the new Sonic Mania project coming out for consoles Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and even PC fans and critics alike would agree that Sonic continues to bring great adventures to the table. And, developers although keeping many of the original game-play features and landscaping, have added a Green Hill Zone Act 2, which will be especially exciting for die-hard fans and players of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Ironically enough, SEGA has also admitted to having another, entirely new and original Sonic the Hedgehog game coming to similar systems this year, but, has offered little insight or “peak previews” into what gamers could possibly expect from it.
Sonic the Hedgehog and his partner Tails are an inseparable duo, and, with both of these upcoming games players can expect to once again fight the evil plans of Dr. Robotnik, adventure through various levels, discover new friends, and, perhaps even form new alliances.
Customers and fans alike have a lot of expectations for both of these Sonic games, and, given the evolution of technology are hoping that the online communities, forums, support, and gaming experience will increasingly represent such growth.
A lot of people don’t know it, but, technically Sonic the Hedgehog originally appeared back in 1991, when he began challenging the dominance of Mario Brothers and their popularity among Nintendo and Sega systems. And, the similarities, as well as the layout of Sonic the Hedgehog gaming, concepts, and Pinball machines, are by no means a coincidence. In fact, the original Sonic the Hedgehog “prototype” was merely a blue-ball running through tubes and other obstacles.
Also, Sonic was originally a rabbit, not a hedgehog, and his name was “Mr. Needlemouse”, arguably both confusing, and cute facts about our beloved hedgehog today.
